Intense scale of densities and range of textures. This is one rotten culverin. It looks like wooden replica of a cannon left to weathering powers of the nature.
As a picture it is not appealing much IMO, as it lacks strong context and composition. Seems like only half a story. Dramatic yes, but much is escaping. Or, maybe there is too much, too much of distraction from this dramatic picture of muzzle. Left side of the picture seems to be too empty. If you will trim the picture right where the trunnion is, composition will improve. It will be also good, to have some more space on the right side.
Did you take any other pictures of this cannon ?
