Canon vs. Nikon revisited!

If you intend to print larger than 11x14, get the camera. Otherwise, the lens.

Why? I don't know what he's using now, but I have printed 24x36 and charger from an 8mp image and they looked great.

You can print larger from 8mp... nothing is stopping you. The results won't be obviously bad.. heck I've done larger than 11x14 print from a 6mp Epson R-D1 file. I personally prefer 10mp for 11x14 or larger. You can start to see the difference especially when you compare large prints between 6mp and 10mp. Of course at reasonable viewing distances it will also be noticeable.

For my purposes, I haven't felt the pressing need to more than 10mp even though my current camera is 18mp. My suggestion was that you should always put preference to better glass over the camera except in the one case that large prints are a primary intention. Today, even used cameras are well over the 10mp count.

It depends on viewing distance but

That's what I get for being a smart arse!!!:er:

Alright I'll get the Nikon. Anybody want to buy some used Canon equipment?

Get the lens. Worry about the body later.
