not sure if this is the right forum but nonetheless,

Hi,
I'm new to this forum, I'm also somewhat new to photography but enjoy what little I do.
A friend of mine recently purchased an Canon EOS D-XSi which I was very impressed with.
Would this be a good camera to start with and grow into? and are deals like the one below something I should consider? I'm unfamiliar with what lenses I would need although I do know I would be doing closeup and distant shots.
thanks!

Yeah, I've read and heard that it's a great camera to go with. I'd even say that you wouldn't really need to get another body for a while. However, I'd start with the canon kit 18-55 IS lens over those two tamron lenses. The canon lens is image stablized and again I heard a good starter lens.

After that you can decide what over lenses you might want to pick up. Better to save money now to decide what you really want then get that.

Don't go w/ a kit, build your own on adorama or bh.

no, NC

I thought it looked like a good deal because my friend did a lot of research when he go his XSi and payed around $1100 for it??

So are the Tamron lenses not as good as the Canon?

Keep in mind I am a beginner here and need all the basic advice I can get on the best bang for my buck...:)

well there really are only 2 lenses there... personally if it was me I would get it from B&H or some other site like that and get it with the kit lens or with no lens at all. If you put a $200 lens on a $3000 body... your still not going to get the more out of the camera. Just grab the body and get the lens either form the canon kit, or get an even better lens. I HATE the e-bay kits

If you can catch an Amazon deal on a Rebel XSi + 18-55 IS + 55-250 IS package, you can save significantly due to the $200 combination discount.

The "kit" that you've linked on e-bay is mostly just junk that you don't want, anyway.

the reason i ask, i work at a place where you can get an xsi with the canon 18-55is, and canon 55-250is for 850 with a case. as a beginner there wont be more you need. only other lens i would recomend is the 50mm 1.8 ....... i baught my 30d body from adorama.com for 600. but id say start with the xsi .. its has an easy to use interface and great features with a high resolution. cant go wrong with the xsi ... dont get caught up in "package deals" i even work in comission sales and hate that term ............ sd memory cards are cheap online ... bhphotovideo.com is usually yur online "go to" store, buy memory from newegg.com, and adorama to me is shady but i hear good things about them and my camera and lens are just fine from there!

my only complaint about using the slingshot 100 is i cant keep my 55-250is lens on the camera, feels too tight like it would damage lens, so i keep my 50mm 1.8 lens on and no worries.

only other thing is filters, for beginners i recomend them just s you dont damage the glass ...
