I'd have to suggest "House of Leaves". Might not quite fit hte bill of science fiction, but definitly worth reading for everyone.

Lois McMaster Bujold is good, The "Vor" series is good. As is "Falling Free" kinda weird but hey, I read everything!

Also the "Halo" series is great if your into scifi.
