I'm ordering a canvas print and want to get a floating frame with it. Whats the best way to choose a color of frame to go with the photo? Is there a guide, or to just make it match with my office furniture, or to pick a color that compliments the photo?

Use a color that is in the photo.

That's really personal preference... I think all of your ideas might work. If I were you I'd put the image to be printed in PS and create several layers of different colored frames (some that compliment the photo, some that compliment the room). I'd then hold my laptop up to the wall to help me decide. If you don't have a laptop then you'll just have to be imaginative =).

Traditional canvas work ( read paintings) usually use a linen spacer *that is what is called* and they tend to be in the cream family of tones.

Then one picks the frame which becomes a personal taste. The frame imho is there to hold things together not become the point of interest.
