Car racing with a Point-and-shoot -

Not a bad shot for a point-and-shoot camera, is it? This was taken about 5 years ago with a Sony DSC-H2 (before I moved up to the wonderful world of the Alpha DSLR!) on manual mode at f3.5 and 1/200 at a focal length of 38mm. Only color has been edited.

That is fantastic - the camera certainly got the settings right and you have nailed the pan.
Again it highlights the point that camera technology has advanced enormously; and that whilst high quality dSLR's and lenses increase the keeper rates, and allow you to reliably cover a much wider set of conditions ... it is possible to catch great photos with more modest equipment.
Knowledge and skill certainly allow people to get the best out of whetever equiment that have.

I don't subscribe to the often stated theory that a good photographer will always be able to take great shots with whatever gear they have. If that were the case, why would anyone invest in top of the range cameras and lenses ... and why would so many photographers take so much notice of gear specifications?
What I do beleive is that a great photographer will be able to get the very best out of the gear they have and when they hit the limits of the camera's/lens capabilities, then its time to upgrade to something better.

Again - thanks for posting. Nice to get a reality check every so often and a reminder that it isn't always about the gear. We can improve our skills.
