Back story: my friend and I were sitting in a roadside restaurant sipping "tinto" (black coffee) next to the traffic circle at Media Canoa which receives traffic from all points in Colombia, when a group of young travelers , three guys and two chicas came bounding up to us and asked us to buy them some food. As neither of us donate to United Way we said yeah sit down at a table. Photo op flashed in my brain and I said hold on, I'm going to the car for the camera and I'm going take pictures of you. They were happy to be photoed as you can see. Obviously the the chica with the head scarf caught my attention. They were all tattooed and my friend who has prior experience with this noted that the girl with braces had some tattoos that indicated she'd been in prison.. We, chatted, paid for their lunches, gave them some travel money and went on our way.
