cheap camera vs not so cheap camera.

This will probably be the beginning of a interesting thread , here goes.
I got bored and playing with the g/f's free 5mp point and shoot and i mean its a cheapie it came with a bed set anyways i decides to do a noise comparsion with my d70s and my d70 lost.
I shot in raw and there was a huge amount of noise shot at 250 iso , now the free cheapie was hand held but when I zoomed there was almost no noise.
What gives with that any ideas

first the d70 is resolving more detail even zoomed out from the p&s.

second, the color is better, third i think i actually see more noise in the point and shoots (at least from the example)

I am going to have to agree with what was said above... while you may be seeing more grain... honestly I dont...what I do see is poor WB and resolution on the P&S camera

the d70 is definitely sharper probably due to higher resolution.
Better colour balance as has been mentioned and going by the example posted, less noise too

From what I can see there's no comparison; the D70 is producing an image that is cleaner in addition to being better in almost every other conceivable way. Maybe with a 100% crop from a D70 image we can see if there is an unusually high amount of noise... but it definitely doesn't seem to be losing out to the point-&-shoot.

to me there's no contest: the first picture is far better than the second one. in every aspect. to that point that I would even be willing to show those two to anyone that asked whether there is really a point in expending money on a more expensive (digital) camera
