Hi, I'm new here and need some help. I am a poor college student becoming increasingly interested in the portrait side of photography. I have a nikon D50 and a nikon sb-24 flash. My question is, is there any way to get the on camera flash to trigger my sb-24 so i can just use the on camera flash for fill? If not, what are some other cheap options? thanks

You can get little tiny optical triggers that plug into your SB-24. Go to and click on the discussions link on the right hand column. This takes you to the discussion forum on flicker. Do a search for optical triggers and they should be in there somewhere. Their really small...nicknamed peanut optical triggers if I remember right.
thanks a lot nicfargo, I think that's what i need.
To set your exposure correctly it helps to have a flash meter. So, the Nikon CLS system would be cheapest if you just add a SB-400, SB-600 or SB-800 to your rig. Your D-50 can control up to 3 sets of flashes TTL.
