Hi, I'm new here and need some help. I am a poor college student becoming increasingly interested in the portrait side of photography. I have a nikon D50 and a nikon sb-24 flash. My question is, is there any way to get the on camera flash to trigger my sb-24 so i can just use the on camera flash for fill? If not, what are some other cheap options? thanks

Zack

You can get little tiny optical triggers that plug into your SB-24. Go to strobist.com and click on the discussions link on the right hand column. This takes you to the discussion forum on flicker. Do a search for optical triggers and they should be in there somewhere. Their really small...nicknamed peanut optical triggers if I remember right.

thanks a lot nicfargo, I think that's what i need.

To set your exposure correctly it helps to have a flash meter. So, the Nikon CLS system would be cheapest if you just add a SB-400, SB-600 or SB-800 to your rig. Your D-50 can control up to 3 sets of flashes TTL.
