This is a hot-house flower, which fruits at temperatures of about 1100C. Quite delicate, however easy to care for once mature.

Backstory to follow.

Sound exactly like me....lol

What? really?.... waiting for the backstory....

I've seen a couple his exhibits, one at Cheekwood Botanical Gardens here in Nashville and also at Desert Botanical Gardens in Phoenix, and they are astounding.

I've never seen anything like it but it looks good, I like the lighting!
And I'm curious to hear Mishele's backstory ... erm ... whose backstory was it, after all???

Dale Chihuly is an artist who specializes in glass sculpture, although that description does not do justice to the creations he's made. He has an exhibit at the Montreal Museum of Fine Art at the present, and it's a visual feast. The museum allows/encourages photography so I was able to take many images of his work, of which I'm showing one here. Chihuly's web site is here: Dale Chihuly - Artist - Home for those who want to know more. As Scott mentioned, the pieces and assemblies are astounding. Blown glass is a beautiful medium, and in his team's hands (they are all hand-made), they reach a level where you just cannot use enough adjectives to express what you see.

As for the image itself, it was taken in the section "Chandeliers" where several of his fantastical creations were arranged and suspended. By walking around the room, you could create different juxtapositions of the different forms, and this is one such pairing. I shot this at ISO 800, 1/10 sec, f/8, WB=tungsten, at 24mm. Obviously IS was enabled and I braced myself against a wall (no tripods allowed) to minimise handshake and camera movement. Lens was my walkabout 24-105mm L.

As for Mishele... let us just say we're fortunate to have her among us.

Very nice. He had a big exhibit at the Conservatory here in Columbus for a while -- beautiful work. There are still a few pieces there, but nothing like the whole show from a few years back.

Since this exhibition is a travelling one, can you imagine being the person responsible for packing, transporting and unpacking these creations?

YES! When they set up here in Nashville I went a couple of times to watch and talked to one of the installers. It is a MAJOR undertaking, and each piece of each unit is packed in foam-filled boxes. They had an entire warehouse filled with boxes, each labeled as to which part of which display the box belonged to.
