Beautiful shot - so pretty too.

Yes it is a nice simple shot, the foreground shadow nicely highlights the sun lit flower, DoF is about right, but I could try it a bit more narrow if the lense allows. The flowers lack a bit of sharpness on my monitor, was it a zoom lense?
Anyway, blurred background always highlights the sharpness of the main object, so if you narrowed you field to some flowers and left others blurred it could emphasise the sharpness of the main objects. But that all depends on what lense you are using.
The arched blade of grass (or is it two blades?) in the upper right corner is a big distraction though as well as a single flower on the right. I would have trimmed it. The frame looks too wide anyway.

it is a zoom lens: Sigma 10-200mm F3.5-6.3 DC; it had just arrived and I was out shooting, trying to get a feel for the new lens...

the pic is cropped a bit, but no other post processing done....

Why not? I see this posted time and time again, almost like it's supposed to mean the image is better. The simple fact is: Virtually every image can be improved somewhere between a little and a lot with a quick trip into the pixel room. This is a nice enough image, but I think with a bit of simple processing, it could have been much stronger. A very slight 'S' curve, just a bit of a saturation boost to the reds, maybe pull back the shadows just a hair...

Keep on shooting the chives! I used to grow chives, and liked photographing them...they are one of my all-time favorite plants to see in photos.

to which I would reply: Why?

I like the pic as it stands - good color, clear focus, etc... I am not a professional, I do not sell my pictures to make a living...

I will admit that I am an amateur photographer, and an amateur at post-processing.... I like not feeling that every pic needs to be tweaked....

Okay.

For images posted to the world wide web, assigning an sRGB profile is a good idea.

I did not mean to come across as flippant or snippy to your response - quite the opposite... I enjoy working in LightZone to bring out the best of a photo, but I honestly believe that not every picture should be post-processed...

I am searching for away to do this in LightZone, but have yet to find it.....
