Choosing Canon Wide Angle Lens

a 28mm should not be considered a wide angle on a crop sensor. you need to go donw to 10mm to get true wide angle on a crop sensor. Unfortunatly 10mm start around $500. If you want a 10mm that is also 2.8 you probably looking at over $1000

I think tamron has a 14mm f2.8 corrected wide-angle, I'm not sure the quality though. You might be able to find a used one on ebay for just a tad more than you are trying to spend. You might want to save a little more and scour ebay in search of a Tokina 12-24 for ~$350, great lens and phenomenal build quality.
