Christmas Boat Parade c&c

This is a photo I took at the local boat parade. It was pitch black outside. The only lights were from the boats and a few street lights behind me, and a few stars. No moon or anything. My settings were f5.6, iso 1600, 1/8 sec. My lens is the kit lens, so 18-55 and I was at 55. Oh, and not on a tripod. This was an unplanned stop on the way home from buying the Christmas tree, so I didn't go prepared, and there was nothing to set my camera on to steady it.

I know the distraction in the bottom right corner needs to be removed, but I'm debating on whether to crop it or use photoshop to remove it.

Opinions on exposure and composition? Anything else?

Sorry, im a HUGE noob! lol so my advice might be wrong but i guess its just my opinion... I def agree u need to remove the image to the right hand corner. i would use photoshop to remove it instead of cropping the photo... since the boat is floating towards the right i wouldnt want to cut off the photo too soon. but hey just my opinion! I cant wait til i take cool photos like urs

There is too much black space IMO. I think a tighter crop would look better.

FUN!! what a crazy boat haha. cool picture btw. I would also crop it a bit on the left side.

Blackrose I agree there is way too much empty space, but when I try to crop it in ps, I just cant get it to look right.

JessicaLynn Thanks! Yeah I dont want to crop too much off but dontbwant to leave too much! lolAudible Chocolate..cool name! And yeah the boat parade was pretty cool. They had boats of all types. The biggest one had a live band and the smallest was a tiny flatbottom with one strand of lights lol. Then of course everything in between.
