I think your black and white conversion is muddy... so in that case go with color. However, if you play with the curves your black and white might be more compelling.

Thank you....I admit, this is the first time I've tried converting to b&w....will go back and play some more....

The problem I have with the B&W is there is no solid contrast. I think part of that is the original image comes off as flat to me. And the conversion to B&W made it flatter. I would suggest that when converting to B&W, think in B&W. Think about the contrast and the subject and imagine how it will look when the color is removed.
