Well I will post another portrait and see if anyone comments. Funny I was told by a member here of another forum that people actually interact with you and your work. I posted a few shots and had more interaction than I have had here all year. Makes you wonder but I know where I will focus my future energies.

Please allow me to dance on a few eggs shells here and answer your post with some questions. Do you ever do any portrait work that is not in-studio? How about portrait work that does not involve young women? Would ever consider a shot of an elderly women on a park bench? Perhaps an older man in a barber's chair? How about a bowler who has just made their first strike...that expression of pure joy of doing something they have never done before? I realize getting these types of shots take huge amounts of time and dedication, but that is what makes them so impressive.
To me, studio work lacks authenticity. It screams fabricated, which never piques my interest. I am all about 'the moment' when it comes to impressing me with a shot. I say this out of a desire for those kinds of shots, not because I am involving myself with that kind of shot, so please don't deem me hypocritical.
Perhaps, if you were to post some people shots that were more organic you might get a better response. It would certainly encourage me to post more on your work.
As to why you get better response from other sites I would say that 'different strokes for different folks' might apply here. The demographics of sites varies, and far be it from me to put a finger on why it is that way. Take DPReview for instance. They are primarily a product review site with very little emphasis on posting of shots, while here at TPF we are all about posting shots. This discrepancy will undoubtedly attrack different viewers.
Here's hoping that you take this as heartfelt advice and not malicious, or insulting.

thanks I have shot men but not many want their portraits taken. I do shoot out of the studio but I do understand what you are saying but since I am a portrait shooter and events I only post mostly the portraits. I shoot who wants to be shot. I do not do street work as there is not much money in it. There are not many of the shots you are talking about ton this forum either. Portraits are hard for people to shoot and most do a terrible job. I shoot in the studio as well as outside and post both of them pretty much equally.

I get hundreds of thousands of views on Flickr but I also look for constructive interaction as the reason for posting here and other than three people that does not happen. I’m a newbie here, but surely we photographers present our work, I do not expect any ‘likes’ or comments.. I hope those that look at my work enjoy the experience. We see so many images nowadays it’s sometimes hard to pick one from another..

I believe this one statement speaks volumes. Flickr is huge in comparison to TPF so it is very understandable you would get a much greater response there. Also, one thing I have learned from my short stint here at TPF is that it is vastly easier to impress the general public with your shots than it is to impress fellow photographers. I realize there are many photographers at Flickr but with hundreds of thousands of views there really is no way of telling whether or not those are from experienced photographers, or from any number of those selfie taking wannabe's who are easily impressed. I guess if one is trying to monetize their work it really doesn't matter, but here at TPF monetization isn't the driving force.

I looked over the responses and will post but not as often. The comment about not expecting likes or comments is the exact reason we get none. I do not post for only likes but for feedback. If one post gets a good response one one gets much less then I look at the picture and try to figure out why. Sometimes I post a pic I am not sure about too. But so many posts have no response over the months it no longer serves that purpose. As to what to say just say what you like or don’t like or would change or try differently or there is nothing to change. I know other forums are much more responsive to portraits and I have started posting there and the feedback has been great. Heck in two days I had more responses than I have had here all year so far. Aldo sure Flickr is bigger but 100k plus a day is way way more than we see here but it is not always photographers. That is why I still use the gotums. Thanks for responding.

Next time you have a photo session are all those voices running around in your head? I doubt it, you do the best you can with all your photographic experience. So why do you need the voices at all? — I offer my images with no warranty, guarantee or promise of pleasure. If they do please it’s because the viewer sees pleasure. Quite a few of my ‘in the delete file’ when posted have resulted in many ‘Likes’.. go figure

Next time you have a photo session are all those voices running around in your head? I doubt it, you do the best you can with all your photographic experience. So why do you need the voices at all? — I offer my images with no warranty, guarantee or promise of pleasure. If they do please it’s because the viewer sees pleasure. I usually don't reply to most photos. Here is a suggestion that seems to be true for many. It takes me at least 100 shots of a subject to get one keeper. The angle, light, exposure, focus, and subject rarely align for me. Maybe I'm a bad photographer, but that's what it takes me to get a keeper.

If you are looking for constructive criticism, maybe ask for it? Otherwise, I will most likely give it a thumbs-up if I like it; nothing if it doesn't spark my interest.
I know a few folks who do portrait work; it was never my thing, so I don't really focus on what others do in that field.
