Hi there,

My father recently got the new Panasonic G3 camera, with the 14-42 and 45-200 lenses, so i decided to go out and take it for a spin :) I must say that it's quite nice, and the micro 4/3 system is much better than it used to be. It's been quite a while since I've held a bigger camera than a typical low budget compact, and I was wondering, if my work is even slightly interesting. C&C are most welcome :)

I know this isn't B&W but I didn't want to start another thread with only one photo :) Sorry guys :)

I like the lighting. They do seem kind of soft but it almost gives them an old fashioned look. I think you should try to find a little bit more compelling subject matter. But I kind of enjoy these for what they are.

Yes it is. I think #1 is a miss, but the rest are interesting and I particulary like #5.

Thanks for sharing.

I get the softness issue. I think it's because of the quality of the kit lens[ 45-200 mm ] - don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to say that I'm a pro but my gear sucks, it's just that most of the pictures I've taken with the G3 seemed to be great, but then they turned out to be out of focus and blurry. These were the best out of the lot.

*JMBtiggs thanks for the thumbs up, and about the subject matter. I took the camera for a test drive, and I hadn't had much time so I just wandered around and took as much photos as I could. Perhaps it might be a bit weird for me to say this but these photos are not much but then there's something in them that draws attention. Be sure that in the future I'll post some better ones :)

Cheers,

The blur has nothing to do with the quality of the lens. It's motion blur and it's only on the first one. Your shutter speed in the first was 1/20
the rest are clean. I think you have a good eye for picking something small out of a bigger setting. Your heavy dark contrast on the window ones is kind of a detraction. I am unsure how I feel about the street lamp.

To me, these pics are just ok. Nothing jumps out at me and pulls me in. #4 is probably my favorite of the set. I agree that all of them look a little soft. Not crisp. A rule of thumb when shooting, if you are using a 200mm lens the slowest you should hand hold your camera is 1/200. 50mm; 1/60. Otherwise, use a tripod. (just commenting on the PP who said you shot at 1/20) HTH!

I was wondering, if my work is even slightly interesting.
Almost. Keep going with it..you'll reach a breakthrough. I think i can tell where you are at. You'll get a location, or a situation with interesting light and good things will come from it. I do like your b&w conversions and controlled use of editing that is not too strong.

I gotta say I'm finding myself frequently agreeing with MLeeK.

No. 5 is my favorite and I find it pretty interesting. On the 4th shot, I might have liked to see more of the shadow that is under the windows (under the "T" shape) because while the left window is very dark, so is the area under the right window, which might have balanced your already interesting play on shadow. I don't like that part of the street lamp is cut off, but I enjoy how you captured the black and various greys of the shot.

Thank You all for C&C's, they're very helpful and I hope to improve my skills in time :) Meanwhile here's another one:)
