Aperture controls the amount of light entering the lens and reaching the camera's sensor or film. The diameter is measured in F-stops(ie F2.8)
Shutter speed The camera's shutter speed is a measurement of how long its shutter remains open as the picture is taken.
Fill flash A flash technique used to brighten deep shadow areas
ISO speed A rating of a film's or sensor's sensitivity to light.
JPEG A standard for compressing image data
RAW The RAW image format is the data as it comes directly off the CCD, with no in-camera processing is performed.
Saturation How rich the colors are in a photo.
RGB Red, Green, Blue
Sharpness The clarity of detail in a photo. How in-focus it is.
White balance A function on the camera to compensate for different colors of light being emitted by different light sources.
Ambient light The natural light in a scene.
Prime lens - lenses that have a fixed focal length. Mesured in mm (ie 50mm)
Zoom lens - lenses that can change there focal length.
Backlighting - Light coming from behind the subject, toward the camera lens, so that the subject stands out vividly against the background. Sometimes produces a silhouette effect.
Balance - Placement of colors, light and dark masses, or large and small objects in a picture
Bracketing - Taking additional pictures of the subject through a range of exposures-both lighter and darker-when unsure of the correct exposure. Contrasty - Higher-than-normal contrast including very bright and dark areasCropping - Printing only part of the image usually for a more pleasing composition.
