I love my 450d, but I'm trying to get more out of it if that makes sense. I using a macro filter that allows me to get super close to small items and a teleconverter also to increase the the focal point. I'm using the standard lens an ef 18-55mm which came with the camera, is there a better quality lens i can use to take better quality pictures with the same focal points or greater.

Most of the lenses in the Canon line up are of better quality than the 18-55mm 'kit' lens.

In this range, I would suggest;
EF-S 17-55mm F2.8 IS
EF 17-40mm F4 L
EF 16-35mm F2.8 L

Agreed. For a quick improvement, you could look at the 50mm F1.8 lens. Its a cheaper vesion of the F1.4 version and is about $100. It's a great lens to have in your bag. It can take pictures in very low light situations and performs great outdoors too. You will find it or the 1.4 in many pro bags.
