Computer assembly - help needed

Thanks for the input robins - though the 24 pin wasn't the problem, it was the missmatched connections on the other line which is an 8 pin. After the above mentioned it appears that they've done this to be backward compatible with other motherboard connections, so this is a case where the round slot goes into the square.

Also answered my own SATA question - the two spare slots are there for additional expansion once the standard 6 are full.

Spiffy.. glad it all worked out for you then. Was elbow deep putting together an I3 system myself last night, been a while since I slapped one together but I guess it's like riding a bike, once you learn how to utterly humiilate yourself you never forget how.. lol.

It's a nice little system, I'm sure the guy will be happy with it - and it gets the stuff out of my basement so win/win there.. lol

In other questions just two simple ones now'
I've a C-link output on the PSU and a slot on the tower that fits one of its output lines - though oddly I've no mention in the Tower instructions as to what this cable is for. I assume the two go together though I'd like to know why.

The C-link stuff is proprietary -- it's for system monitoring & control. Based on my experience with their H100i (also features C-link), I'm not super knocked-out. In theory, you should be able to monitor temps on your CPU, GPU, HDD's, etc., and adjust various fans, pumps, LED's, etc., in response to temps.

In practice, it seems to mainly be a source of more software that may or may not run right half the time.

Your MB has fan connectors that can also perform some measure of this sort of thing -- these might be just as good, if not better for mainstream use.

Also the bios can see all 3 attached drives but windows is only showing the SSD drive and no additional drives - where can I find a thingy to make it look?

edit - device manager can see the drives its just my computer that isn't showing them

Are you trying to set them up as mirrored? The BIOS has a setting to change the SATA ports from ACHI to RAID - that might be a good place to start. Get them showing up the way you like before you do too much other monkeying around -- just about every time I putz with that it takes a few reboots to get it right.

not setting them up for RAID - I've two additional drives I'm setting up for general use (one games and the other photos)

Under control panel --> Administrative Tools --> Computer Management, look for "Disk Management".

The data drives might just be uninitialized. You should be able to initialize, format, and assign drive letters from there.

Barring getting rid of the start menu and making the shop the front page instead of the desktop Win 8 isn't too different on the general face of it. Honestly the only thing that annoys me is having the Win store and Win apps thing running the whole time.

I had some awful issues with mine hanging up all the time on reboots. It had to be a driver issue, but it took forever to sort out. There's a hack out there that gives you back a boot menu where you can get to "safe boot" if you need it. It might be worth looking that up before you need it. ;-)
