Can others edit my Photos
Photos OK to edit
Hi Guys,

Since I got my new DSLR, I notice iPhoto is really starting to slow down, could be the large jpeg pics. I'm considering switching to a new software editor/organization.

One of the things I love iPhoto is it has a concept of Events (Birthdays, Holidays, etc) Which I can organize my photos into. Do you have any recommended software I should consider.

On initial search the common ones I see is lightroom and aperture.

Key things for me is the organization aspect and hoping its lightweight so it doesnt slow down my machine.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I primary use Lightroom. So my vote is Lightroom. I believe you can download it and try it out before you buy it. In that case, you will know if it slow down your machine. For me, the software working pretty good as far as speed goes, but that does not mean it works well for others.

I too would vote for Lightroom. It's pretty capable, really, and does not cost too much. Lightroom will allow you access to good editing and organizing capabilities.

Lightroom is much more common but i find it not as intuitive to use as Aperture.

Another great benefit of Aperture is that your existing iPhoto library can simply be opened by Aperture thus keeping all the orginization you have already done. You can even switch back and forth from Aperture to iPhoto the libraries are universal.

I've never used Lightroom but I really do love aperture! I've used it for about 5 years now and I've only recently decided to move into PS for some of my work.

My understanding is that aperture does MORE than LR but leas than photoshop.

However Lightroom 5 is a faster running program than aperture. So if speed is a factor then maybe LR is for you.
