Continuous shooting

So I'm thinking about buying a Sony over a Nikon because I'm going to be taking a lot of action pictures. Hockey and soccer to be specific. How many fps should I be looking at? Sony's I've noticed have 10-12fps, where Nikon tends to have around 4 max. Would 4 be enough to capture a high speed hockey game?

I've used an SLT camera (capable of 12fps) indoors in less than favorable lighting conditions. I would rather have both of my eyes ripped out or my head than use an electronic viewfinder in less than favorable conditions (like a hockey arena). I never ever get motion sickness, but I did get motion sick while using an SLT. Not a good feeling.

A Nikon d300/700 will do 8fps with a grip, 6fps without. That's plenty fast. The d4 can rip off 11fps, which is ridiculous.
