Conversions with Channel Mixer --- great fun!

What fun it is - and how effectful it can be - to do conversions from colour photos into black and white with the help of the Channel Mixer!!! The outcome can be so varied!

This is the sunflower after I had created a duplicate layer and then went to Channel Mixer and hit "Grayscale" (bottom) ... the default settings are at Red +100 / Green 0 / Blue 0. No changes done:

Then I started to play:

Red +50 / Green +50 / Blue - 50

Red 0 / Green +70 / Blue + 100

Red + 150 / Green - 200 / Blue +200 (extremes, but hey, funny outcome!)

I tried this with several more pics of mine. I would never want to return to "Desaturate" any more in order to convert my colour pics to b&w.

Corinna, now do the same thing, only with the blending mode of the channel mixer set to "soft light" and watch what happens. Try it with and without monochrome checked.

Oh, had more fun. The demo still continues. Look:

Red -60 / Green + 120 / Blue + 60

or:

Red +160 / Green - 60 / Blue - 60

Red + 40 / Green + 50 / Blue + 50

or:

Red + 25 / Green - 20 / Blue + 200

(Yes, boring pic to begin with, but with Conversion 2 you can almost make something from it, don't you think so? )

Matt, I ought to be cooking dinner :roll: ... but aren't the possibilities of PS fun? And they can gobble up ALL YOUR TIME if you let yourself into it! !!! I will try what you suggest though. Now I am CURIOUS!!!!
