Can others edit my Photos
Photos NOT OK to edit
Hey folks--

I had someone come into my studio and ask if i could take 6 of their paintings, take digital images, and put it on a CD for them. A couple of questions rise from this:

1) What does the industry charge for such work?
2) Is it more complicated than taking a high resolution photograph of the artwork?

Any feedback or thoughts would be most appreciated.

Ben

No.
If they just want a digital image of the artwork, then just give them that.
They probably don't even want color correcting or sharpening at all.
I would suggest a minimal charge because you're just doing simple imaging.

Anything more they probably want to do themselves. They just want high rez images that they can tweak.

You might have heard of the opposite. Taking a photo and making a painting from it.
That's very involved and complicated.

That's what I figured, thanks. I told him it would probably be about $25 for 6 images on a CD. Too little? I figure it will really take me less than 30 minutes.

If you have to go on site to take the photos, I'd go for $40-$50.

If he's bringing the paintings to you then $25 seems good.
