Ahh the second one you are worried about. Its shooting through foliage by the looks and that's tough work even with long lenses and wide open. Sometimes we can get away with it and sometimes we can't. If its only a small part of foliage, we can generally not worry about it, but too heavy and too much is a problem. It can take away the finer feather details and that's the problem. That's come out pretty well considering though. Its a gorgeous bird BTW.

The first shot is excellent and shows very fine details, beautiful markings and nice browns in that. Nice clear shot.

All the best Brian and nicely done.

Shooting through heavy foliage also use single focus point and look for any space between branches, shrubs, tree etc. Get that focus point past and in between. I think of it as shooting a rifle with a scope I get my sites between and on or miss and hit the branch. Does it always work heck no but its a lot of fun trying it. Still a nice shot and beautiful bird.

Like 'em! And you got nice "eye contact" on both. Lee

You hit the nail on the head. I just wondered if in this case the effect was sort of pleasing. Guess not.

A little story for you Brian ;) I've seen a lot of your work going back over a few posts, you already know how to take a shot, so no problem.

I've taken a few exactly like that, but here's where it changes. Jan loves that look and feel that effect gives. It's the mad birders that get picky ;) Others see a softer side and the feel of the shot is more important than being bang on sharp, perfect DOF, etc. So I know for a fact, my wife would love that look. As a MF shooter she has seen enough of mine that are not right, but she still likes them for a certain feel. That shot does have that feel to it.

All the best Brian and show a few people that are not mad birders :)

Danny.
