For years I've had this old shelving unit thingy in a dark corner of my basement, so I decided it was finally time to get rid of it. It's a steel structure with multiple removable glass shelves, but it's open on all sides. I got it outside and a lightbulb went off... I can use this thing in the garage to help me take pictures! Excuse the crappy blackberry photos, but here is how I set it up.. this is just an example, you can see it's really quite versatile:

The openings on the side I can block with diffusion material, gobos, etc. Here is a flash firing into the setup... the diffusion material here is just parchment paper held on by magnets:

On the back side, I can set up any kind of backdrop I want.

I spent a few hours out there just screwing around with it. Here are some preliminary samples.

Dude--you're kicking a$$ with that old storage rack!!! Nice work on the Rube Goldberg job ya' done on it!

Really great, always love ideas to give junk items a new lease on life

My lightbox is on my pool table. Does that count?

Thanks, guys. I'm really finding this convenient; I just wish it were a bit larger in the "depth" direction (yeah, yeah, I know... that's what she said). Almost makes me want to fabricate something similar, but with more depth to it. :P
