Couple of my newbie pics, any advice is much appreciated.

#1. The balloon looks out of focus to me, and the position in the frame lacks grace.

#2. Nice horizontal lines, but the cut-off windmill is distracting.

Both pictures are a little noisy - high ISO?

#1 is not bad, but I would have placed the balloon slightly higher in the image, but that is just me being fussy.

#2. There are too many "elements" in the image, making it "complicated". I don't know what the subject is - the birds (too many of those as well), or the windmills. Also, as Designer said, the cutoff windmill is distracting.

Rather than have the birds "coming at me", I would have waited until they were more or less at right-angles to me and then picked out a few, preferable no more than 3 or 4 (2 or 3 is better) and shot their silhouettes against the sky without the windmills. Remember that the simplest photographs are often the best and you don't have to get "everything" in one frame.

All interesting variations on a theme folks. Personally, I would have placed it about the middle of the left thirds line and I would have removed the turbine blades. The cropped first one is more in line with what I was thinking.

Joe - nice effect, except I would have thought that by the time the blade had made it that far into the balloon, it would have been "history"... - but what do I know?
