The tonal difference between the subject and the background is actually quite subtle, and requires a bit of work in recognizing the shape of the bird. If this was intentional, you have succeeded brilliantly.

Pgriz gets the golden apple...the shot was made to almost blend the two areas into one...I almost went too soft.

Crusing or cruising? I do like it, but would prefer to see it's head.

I know with birds, some people are sometimes too obsessed over seeing the all important eye. For this shot, it just wasn't important as much as how well the bird fit into his surroundings...I was far more after mood and natural ambiance than as I would far more likely to be with a raptor or songbird, where nailing the eye is the shot.
