Do you know Stannard Edge? Up the hill from Hathersage (direction SSE, A6187), right at the hair-pin bend, where you leave the valley and head up onto the moor, jump over the dry stone wall, down the slope and skirt around that spur going East for a hundred yards. At the foot of the escarpment, you're immediately into a secluded wood, entirely of Silver Birch trees.

Yes, that has the Curbar feel to it. I remember the outcry when that statue had its arms broken off by an angry mob of Yorkshire climbers.
