D40 lens

How important is the VR on a lens, i found a package deal for the D40 that includes the 18-55 kit lens and a 55-200 zoom lens but it doesnt have the VR and just wondering if im gonna have problems with vibration when shooting without a tripod.

I saw that same kit when I ordered mine. 100% of the reason that I didn't get the kit was due to the 55-200 not being a VR lens.

VR isn't the most important feature in the world...but it's nice to have. I have a 70-200 with IS, and I love it...but you have to know when you need a tripod or when you don't.

that was my thought too, maybe ill just wait and buy a better lens, i kinda want a 70-300 anyways, any recommendations in that department??

Get the Nikkor AF-S 70-300 with VR. That's the same lens that I'm saving up for and will autofocus with the D40.
