Yes, I think it does. My D40 does, so the D40x does too.

Creative Lighting System and no i dont think it does. Only the D80 upwards have the commander. Not 100% sure though.
Ebay triggers are pretty good if the D40 doesnt have the CLS.

As far as I'm aware, it is supported but the built-in flash can not be part of the system. With the D80, I can use the built-in as a commander, with or without firing the flash.

As far as I have heard the D40 does not support CLS, you'll need a SB800 to act as your commander

It supports CLS but the pop-up will not serve as a commander. The "600" will and is a much more sensible purchase for the D40.

The 600 doesn't have a commander mode on it.

Am I misunderstanding what you are saying?
