Hello all,

I have two questions related to video

Question 1

I'm going to video someone using my D5100 (and Audio-Technica ATR-3350). I thought I read somewhere that it's best to use a manual lens with an aperture ring so you can manually control the aperture. Is this true?

I'm confused. :er:

Question 2

I'm going to be shooting one person, sitting at a desk, in an office and under fluorescent lights at about 5-8 feet. Which lenses (of the ones I have) would you recommend I use?

Feel free to recommend all settings (F4, 1/50th,1080I,ISO 400 etc).

Thanks in adance....

Guess I'll answer my own post.....
Used Tamron 17-50mm

Settings

24mm, F4,1/60th,ISO <1600, AE Lock, 24fps-1080
Grey card calibration

I found it key to use Manual , "AE Hold", and setting ISO to 1600 or less and 1/60th for florescent lights (no flicker)

The video turned out so good I just couldn't believe it. I'm both happy and surprised.

Anyway, I really had no intrest in doing videos when I bought the camera but since the video turned out so well, I'm considering switching my camera model for one that does even better video. I

guess you never know.........

I use my 3100 for b-roll shots because I can get nice dof. I normally use my 50mm prime. Set the USO to auto and depending on the look I wants I'll go either 1.8 -2.8 range.
