Photos OK to edit
I bought a copy of Understanding Exposure (3rd), and it's talking about my camera displaying a correct shutter speed in M mode... where is this? Or does the D7000 even have a light meter built in?

thanks in advance, won't continue reading this book until I know, reading through my manual AGAIN >_>

Shutter speed is displayed in the viewfinder (far left), on the display on the top right of the camera (top center of the display), and on the LCD monitor (top center, if you press the info button).
And yes, the D7000 does have a meter..... as do all digital cameras.

Yes the D7000 has a built in light meter. The book actually shows you what it looks like. Its on page 23 in the 3rd edition. Its called: Understanding the Exposure Info in Your Viewfinder.

+..........0..........- It looks something like this......Should be on LCD and in viewfinder.

got it. i have always seen it there, it just never seemed to move at all, and my photos were coming out with decent/good exposures - which is why i asked

If you put in in Manual mode then change ISO, shutter speed, aperture, or all 3, it will move. Or, just point the camera at different lighting.

If you use one of the auto modes (like aperture priority) it won't move (unless you use exposure compensation).

In manual, point the camera at something bright, then something dark - it should move a lot then.
