A polarizing filter, CPL filter can be used to decrease reflections in water if the sun's directly overhead, and increase color in an image and also act as a 3 stop filter so you can have additional control over controls in bright settings. The UV filter is mainly used for defense against the elements in messy conditions. I used to have one on my lens for fear of messing up the lens but I have taken it off and noticed slightly better image quality. Most of the time, filters are only put on for certain situations, though I've heard of people keeping CPL filters a lot of the time, or graduated ND filters if shooting outside often.
