I didn't mean it wasn't worth the extra cash as It is an outstanding piece of kit. I meant if someone was thinking of going for a D80 it would be alot easier to stretch to a D200 compared to a D300 as the gap in cost is higher than you were suggesting..
No one knows your budget better than you. If the difference between a D200 and D300 for you is waiting a month or 2 and saving a little more, that is what I am suggesting. If you cannot afford more than your budget for a D200... well then your choice is made.
In either case, you will be getting a darn good camera, just watch out for that D300 firmware that makes every D200 take crappy pictures whenever you are within 2-5 miles of B&H and their Nikon display... lol
