Dampening Tripod "Ring"

Sometimes, even the camera's internal movements can cause minor vibrations in your tripod. If conditions are just right, the natural resonance of a tripod will respond to that movement and cause the tripod to 'ring' like a tuning fork.

Here's a simple trick to dampen than ring: Hang your bag from it.

In my case, I just went to the hardware store and purchased a 3/8" coupling nut and 3/8" J-hook, and jammed them with a standard 3/8" machine nut.

You may need to alter or re-engineer a similar method, but hanging the weight of the bag on the tripod might give you enough 'stops' to get the sharp shot!

Another little trick to dampen vibration, Don't raise the center column. I never understood why Manfrotto never put a hook attachment on the end of their columns. Looks like a good DYI fix.
