Dark and Bright Side of a Forest

found this nice border between a dark/dead and bright/growing part of a forest.

Interesting contrast. Is this the result of a fire? Just curious why one side is "dead" and the other side is "alive".

No, the left side (dark) is also alive. but it's a coniferous forest, the right side is deciduous forest.
