I know I'm biased because I love abandoned houses, but they really look great in any season. Late fall seems to enhance the feeling of emaciation more than other seasons, though.

I really enjoy the color version of this shot, as well as this one! I might actually lean towards the color. The house itself is a piece of art! The color and lines that are there are incredible. Do you have any close ups of just the house?

This is the first thing I thought, Federico. I know you like to show these in context in their natural setting, and this does so beautifully, but I still crave a closer shot of the house showing more detail.

Looks overcooked, to me. The white surface of the house doesn't work for me. There's also a pale patch on the lawn, so I guess there *could* be a ray of light coming through and illuminating these things? I am not buying it, though. Whether there was or not, I can't "see" it.

I can't tell what time of day this was shot, either. The black outlined trees suggest darkness, the sky suggests storm, the light elsewhere suggests otherwise. If the trees were backlit, or if the rest of the frame somehow supported a dark situation, I would believe the silhouetted trees, but right now I'm not believing that either.

The composition is generally quite strong, as has been noted. The way the image has been handled, I think, is quite distracting. I think you're going for "pop" rather than a coherent image.

Unfortunately, I don't have any closer shots. Truth is, I only spent about 10-15 minutes here – I was in a bit of a hurry . So as soon as I was happy with this shot (and the colour version that I posted on my FB, which is slightly different in terms of composition), I took off. I'm back to my abstract ways though, so I see myself doing close-ups more often in the near future.

That is just the result of good ol' dodging and burning. I can't claim to have invented the technique, but I can assure you that many people who are 1,000 times better than I am don't really mind if the results are buyable or not. It's a take-it-or-leave-it kind of trick, I guess.

I can understand the above and agree with you to a certain degree. The lack of detail on the trees on the left-hand side is indeed a huge mistake, the result of sloppy post-processing. The other issue here is that the GND filter that I used was too strong for the scene so the sky looks weird in my opinion. Other than these issues (which are bad enough for me to toss or rework the image), I believe the image is coherent.

I don't care if the time of day is clear to the viewer or not (as long as this is not relevant to the story being told, that is). In fact, I'm a huge fan of images in which the time of day is not discernible – this is not something I consciously try to achieve in my photos but something I enjoy when viewing other people's work.

I have now added a brand new edit of this photo above, plus a recrop. I believe that this new version is technically better, although some of the "drama" is lost in the trade-off.
