Deconstruction please,

I Consider myself pretty savvy with Deconstructing images but this photographer Guy Aroch, I really cant put a pin into his technical side.

Ideally I'd like to know how he achieved the haze (Its not post processing) what types of lighting did he use and anything else you can dig up

He's raised the black point, and possibly used a layer mask to make it a bit selective.

This has a layer with a substantially raised black point, creating that hazy look. Then I masked that to a degree, so the effect is much greater around the edges than in the center:



I am pretty sure this is usually a bad attempt at some type of diffusion glow effect, see for example http://www.thephotoforum.com/forum/...to-gallery/340881-diffusion-effects-gimp.html, although sometimes it appears that they're instead going for a washed out vintage look.

Photo has the effect of the haze on the right side as a result of some kind of internal light leak onto film in the camera (ergo not digital work). That or some kind of film processing method or trick that causes the haze for form down one side (maybe lifting it or dipping it from/into a specific chemical?)

From internal sources I have heard its something he puts in front of his lens, such as a prism or sorts and by quote of the model who wont tell his secret she says "its quite interesting how he achieves his effects, I wont tell you what it is but you can regularly find it in a household bin" which I find really interesting. any thoughts?
