The light was actually directly above him. A flash in a strip box with a grid. Initially it was used in the multi-light setup as a hair light, but it also worked great as a single light setup to create that moody look.

Terrific set! He must be so pleased with these. Love the lighting- #1 is very dramatic.

I'd crop #8 right above the subject's hipline. Lose the pants and shirt hem in this one. Tighter view looks better to me in this dynamic pose.
