I just bought a Asahi Pentax spotmatic 35mm with a 50mm F1.4 super-takumar lens. This lens is supposedly very good but the filter ring thread area is dented in and it's not possible to mount a filter.

Is there any safe, easy method of straightening it out?

I'll try to post a pic later if that helps.

Jon... is it dented at the very end? If so, maybe you could carefully work it with a pair of pliers. Other than that I'd be afraid to try anything... Post a pic though if you get a chance...

Try this:

I dented the ring of my 24-70 f2.8 L lens. I was distrught because i thought it was for the bin - thankfully the glass was fine.
I used a local Canon approved repair and service centre - they straightened it out for around £23.
I did have to buy a new polarizer though - i had damaged the thread for that too.
Try your local repair shop.

Thanks for the suggestions and advice. :D will give it a go mitica. if not...mebbe take it in for a quote.
