i have PS CS, included was Imageready CS. how are they different?

You can create webpages with Imageready, it creates animations and rollovers, which can be intergrated with flash.

There is also the option of importing a movie file (.mov) in as single frames then exporting it out as a movie.

I don't know much about it, I don't use it too often.

CS Image ready seems to be geared towards movement edits.

My avatar was greated using IR and then exported as a gif.

Imported 9 slides and the created a 'motion show'

Don't use it much. though. so thisis best i know.

I assume that one would be able to create these smilies etc. as well.

there is a sample that comes with it where you see a hand unfolding. Play with that. It should give you a basic idea.

Yeah, I only use it to edit motion GIFs.
