Differences in Canon's L and standard series lenses?

these are the advantage that most L series have:
  • Tough build, made to withstand trials in the field some incorporating dust and moisture resistant rubber seals.
  • some lens is weather sealed
  • At least one fluorite or ultra-low dispersion glass element, combined with super-low dispersion glass and ground aspherical elements.
  • Non-rotating front elements, which are optimal for some filters. for example polarizer filter.
  • Relatively large apertures compared to other non-L Canon lenses in the same focal lengths.
  • Ring-type USM (ultrasonic motor) and full-time manual focusing. Most of the other non-L lens use micro-motor type USM, this motor is as silent as the ring-type USM motor however it is not as fast as the ring-type USM motor.
  • Three additional data communication pins on EF extender lenses compatible lenses, compared to the standard EF mount.
