i put a nikon dx lens on a d700 and it mounted fine.

i just tried putting a digital lens on my canon 1N film body and it doesnt fit, im assuming they are different mounts? i know the 1N is a EF mount so i cant figure out the problem.

Since your Nikon lens is not EF mount lens, so it should not be mountable on the EF mount body. (It has nothing to do with digital lens on film body)

your confused.

im talking about a canon digital lens, trying to put it on a canon film body. i dont care if it vignets, im just trying to see if it will mount. but it wont, the canon isnt a fd mount.

EF-S lens cannot be mount on a FF Canon EOS body nor 35mm Canon EOS Film body.

EF lens can be mount on a APS-C Canon EOS body, FF Canon body or 35mm Canon EOS body

In other words, Canon APS-C EOS camera can mount EF or EF-S mount lenses. Other Canon EOS camera can only mount EF mount lenses.

Firstly, lenses aren't digital. ;)

If by digital lens, you mean a Canon EF-S lens....then yes, it's a slightly different mount than the standard Canon EF mount.

This is partially because the image circle of an EF-S lens is not big enough to cover a full frame sensor (or 35mm film). Also, some EF-S lenses extend back into the body farther than EF lenses, which may interfere with the mirror swing of a full frame or 35mm body.

A friend of mine did 'hack' his EF-S 10-22mm lens so that it does fit on his 1 series digital bodies, so it can be done.

interesting, kinda sucks. i had a 12-24mm dx lens on a D700 once, worked at 18mm.
