Can others edit my Photos
Photos OK to edit
I'm putting this here's B/C I'm not sure where to put it. What do you do when you run out of space? I'm moving in that direction with the computer I'm currently using. I'm not a professional, so I can't just delete a folder after the shoot is over and I'll never need the photos again. All my photos are taken FOR me, so I'm attached to them all. I think I'm going to get a 1 TB external, is that just what everyone else does, just keep buying harddrives?

I routinely use a 3 TB USP drive for all my photo stuff, and a second 3 TB drive for backup. The good stuff gets copied into a separate folder. I've about 6 3 TB drives with "RAW" images (3 originals, 3 backups), plus a growing "good" images folder. If I need to go back to any source image, I've got an index which shows me where the image is located.

The more appropriate question is: What are you going to do WHEN (not "if") your hard drive fails and all of your photographs are lost forever?

Start writing copies to DVD or external drives or something. It will solve both of your questions. I make two copies to DVD of everything I shoot. One stays here at home and one goes to my office.

I have 3 internal and 6 external drives.

I've heard it said that if your images don't reside in at least three separate Post Office addresses, they really don't exist.

External drives are the best solution, but an alternative, in the mean time, and if you don't actually produce prodigious amounts of data, might be a cloud based solution such as google drive or the likes thereof.

I would look into Cloud services like "Copy", Dropbox, Pogoplug etc. Their servers rarely break down and keep the ext. HDD for current projects.

The cost benefit is the amount of money you would pay for that HDD vs Cloud storage. For example. on average you would pay about $70-$85 for and ext hdd.

Now if you apply those same moneys towards a cloud service, usually you would get 2x(pogoplug maybe running and unlimited storage space for a year special).

Yeah...I keep buying hard drives...and they keep getting larger as time passes and file sizes get larger. Nowadays, it's 3 terabyte externals. DVD-R discs are another option...as long as you buy QUALITY discs (I have had my best luck with FujiFilm branded DVDs).

I'm firm believer in Verbatim brand. Nothing wrong with...a couple if hard copies.

I'm not big on cloud storage, it's just how I am. There's a 2 TB external on one of the black friday sales near me so I'm gonna get up at 6AM and do that for the mo'. Thanks guys!
