What's new

Dissapointed

It's digital. Complete control is an option if you wish. Calibrate your monitors to the lab you are using, and request no corrections.

My experience is that going to print usually slightly increases contrast. I usually see a bit more detail in my darkest shadows and brightest highlights on the monitor than I will in the print.

I've used Adorama before. The pictures have always come out great. I've always been careful to check the "do not adjust" checkbox though.

They are presets by Mac, but some of them are like adobe rgb, and stuff like that, I can write out the list of options if you want.

You should use sRGB for files sent to Adorama:

"We are not responsible for AdobeRGB98 files or any other file types except JPG or TIFFs in RGB or sRGB."

(from their instructions)

If you send Adobe RGB files, they will look subdued when they are printed with the assumption of sRGB.

Best,
Helen

PS "Printers will print in CMYK..."
Most online printing houses use LED or laser printers for printing on silver halide (ie light sensitive) paper. Adorama use Noritsu QSS-34 Pro laser printers. This type of printer generally uses RGB light (additive) rather than CMYK (subtractive) ink.

OK, I will have to see about the calibration and such. Thanks for the help!

It's very refreshing to see a company offer customer service in a world of no service.

I will definitely give Adorama a shot at my next order.

OMG Adorama is WATCHING US!!!

AAAIIIEEEEE!!!

Actually, it's wicked cool to know they're around. I wonder if anyone from B&H is lurking.

Thanks, Helen, for being a good doobe. Adorama just went up a few points in the eyes of anyone watching this, I'm sure.

Ya it is definatley good to know that they care enough to talk to the people that thy get buisness from to see what they want. It's a huge ++ in my book

As an avid computer sim racer and user of a racing simulator that is developed by a mere 3 person team and having the experience of the same 3 person team be close to the sim racing community on a personal level unlike the big game developers who are out for the $$$$ only, I can appreciate what it is to have someone responding in a forum such as this.

Kudos to Adorama for this. I guess that is why they are a chosen advertiser or whatever they are of this forum.

My prints have been sent out today (first time ever sending online to have them printed). I'll have to post here when I receive them.

I'll definately check them out now. Hope if they get too busy their customer service is still as good! :D

As I said, I'll post when I receive the prints. I got them in the mail today. They looked exactly the way they looked on my monitor. I loved them all.

I had 31 printed in 4x6 and 3 printed at 8x10 but desaturated and "old" looking. The 8x10s are hanging on the wall now. They look gorgeous.

I printed the 4x6s on the Endura Matte and the 8x10s on the Endura Lustre.

I had a good collection of different looks to the photos. Some were an antiqued look (not sepia, but desaturated slightly down to just a bit of color), some were out in the yard of the kids on a bright sunny morning, and a few were from an old mill and an old railroad trestle done in B&W.

Just to see a difference, I had a landscape photo with sunset colors in the clouds and a rainbow off to the side. I had printed a 4x6 on the Endura Matte as the others and also had it printed on the Metallic paper as well to compare. Perhaps I needed to print the Metallic one in 8x10 or select a different photo. I didn't like it as well. The photo was a little dark and was even darker on the Metallic paper.

$0.99 8x10s on any paper through 9/22 right now at Adorama. I think I may just preorder a bunch so I can upload some landscapes later on to print out on the Metallic.

Thanks Adorama, my prints were excellent.

Great, ya after looking at my prints on a pc, they look very similar to the way they printed, which leads me to believe that it is the calibration of my mac screen, so I think if I just add a little more saturation and contrast, then check out how it looks on the pc, they should come out fine.
You are using a pc, no?

Yes, I am using a PC with a CRT display. I've looked through some websites on calibration and have basically only adjusted the brightness and contrast according to the calibration websites. I've not calibrated with an actual calibrator. I also did not color profile to Adorama's .icc files. I don't even know what you would do with those files.
