How much distance do you givebetween the subject and the backdrop during a portrait studio setups??

This is gonna vary... depending on the subject (individual, couple or group), focal legnth of the lens, aperature.... see what I mean?

In my studio, I typically pose an individual about eight to ten feet from the background. This allows me to keep most of the light from the main from spilling onto the canvas. I shoot between f8 and f11, using a "twice normal" lens (180mm for 6x7, 105mm for 35mm).

I hope this helps.

We shoot at f/11 and usually have about 5ft between subject and backdrop. Sometimes we light the backdrop, sometimes not.

thanks for you input guys. on my preschool photography, I normally have about 3' between the backdrop and the subject. shooting at f8 or f9.5. the school dont often give you that much room to work with....GRRRRRRRRRRR
