Do you remove your batteries when not in use or do you just leave them in the camera? Lately I have been removing them at night and putting them back in first thing in the morning. Not even sure why I do that :er:

I haven't yet. in fact sometimes I don't even remove the sd card. Because my camera sucks for ease of use and common sense. I put the plate on my camera for the tripod quick release. the plate covers just enough of batter compartment and sd card slot I cant get the door open to remove them anyway.

I leave them in, except on cameras in long-term storage (like over a week).

No, my film cameras have some internal battery that runs down if the AAs are dead, which has a finite life, and is not replaceable.

You must be fairly young.

At my age, my "senior moments" are more the norm than an anomaly, and I can guarantee that IF I could even REMEMBER to take the batteries out of my camera at night, it would be a sure-fire way to end up somewhere the next day with a camera and no batteries…
And, if I took them out every night, even if I *did* remember the next morning that I needed to put them back in, it would just create a vicious cycle:

Get up.
Make coffee. Think to self, "Oh yeah, self, go put the batteries in your camera."
Exit Kitchen, enter dining room.
Why am I here? Oh, I guess I should check my email. And see what's on Facebook.
…time passes…
OH! My coffee!
Go back to kitchen for coffee, spot camera.
Oh, I need to put the batteries back in that.
Go into dining room.
Why am I in here?

and on and on it would go. I'd NEVER get out of the house with those batteries in the camera! :lmao:

I leave them in so the camera is "ALWAYS" ready to fire off. With the steel trap that my mind has become it's guaranteed if I took the batteries out I would walk out the door with the camera and leave the batteries at home.

Like Derrel, I only remove the batteries if I know a camera won't be used for a week or more.

I worry more about the batteries in speedlights.

So true lol

I only pull my camera batteries out to recharge and re-install them after their charged. Now I do take the batteries out of my SB700 since I use typical alkaline batteries. Since I don't use it much, I don't see the point in buying rechargeables and alkalines have a history of melting down over time.

Camera's I dont not remove my batteries from unless I am charnging them. But I do remove them from any accessories like flashes and transceivers.

Not even sure why I do that :er:

Because batteries leak and wreck stuff. Occasionally I find an old flashlight that has been ruined that way.

Not all batteries leak, but when they do, it is bad. I routinely remove batteries from lots of stuff; flash, radio remotes, etc., but not the camera battery because I think it is a better battery, and because I will recharge it on a regular basis.

Ok, terrible idea. You should never ever remove the batteries. Ever. Nope, use it till the battery dies, then replace the camera. Lol.

Ok, no, not really, can't really back that up. My guess is your probably somewhere in my general arena as far as age, and like me you've just seen one too many toy or other electronic device destroyed by an old, corroded alkaline battery - lol.

Yup. Took me quite a while before I could leave batteries in anything myself.

I leave my batteries in as well. I also leave my camera on...ready for action :D.

I have trouble finding my coffee cup while I'm at work! And, for what it's worth, I STILL can't find 1 of the 8 Eneloops I bought over a year ago! If I pulled out the batteries for anything other than charging, they would immediately become lost in the mess I call home. At least I have the excuse there's a memory cell tied to every hair follicle, and I am severely follicle-challenged.

Like Derrel and others I only take batteries out if I know the item won't be used for a long period of time. Short term overnight and a few days the batteries shouldn't have any problem at all sitting in the unit so there's really no reason to take them out. Long term you can get all kinds of problems from the slow discharge and some batteries can end up leaking.

Note I use the Sanyo Enloop AA batteries in my flash so they stay charged even when left in the unit - regular AA rechargable batteries drain down as they are left in a unit (that was a nightmare as the flash would pop a few times then die)
