My traveling buddy and I had been on the road for about ten days, flying into Bangkok, then to Chiang Rai, then into Laos on the International bus and local buses around to Udomxai in north central Laos only 7 or 8 K from China.
I always have trouble with food on these trips. I won't eat vegetables because they are washed in relatively contaminated water and we do eat a lot of rice. So I was plugged tight with lots of stomach pain and I searched out a doctor. The only clinic & doctor in town was Chinese traditional medicine. His nurse gave me a smart phone with an app where I could type in symptoms and it translated into Chinese.
The doctor (hospital area on right) took pulses in both wrists, ankles and neck, then started writing prescriptions. All of the pill boxes were in Chinese or Lao so she gave me a running instruction of what to do.
I left with a paper bag full of pills but I was just afraid to take anything.
Anyway, the fear cured me.
I brought some of the pills home and tried them and they do fix constipation.
While I was there, a man lying on the bed was getting an iv.
The closest better care was probably 12 hours by bus.
After that I added more kinds of pills to the medicine bag I carry with me.
