yes, it is just a tripod head. i have one on my monopod.
i will check over on B&H and get back to you with the number.

you could also consider a "joy stick head" which is very easy to switch.

i just checked over there, look over pan and tilt heads for tripods. i didn't see the one i am using right now, but when i get a chance to go out to the car i will check on the model number of the part.

With my monopod I just hold the camera on its sid and cradle the monopod in the crook of my shutter arm (the one attached to the shutter finger). If the camera moves, it's only because my whole body moved.

i am using model 3229 bogen head on a monopod.
