If you want to get a D600 then go for it. Why get talked down to a camera you're gonna want to chuck in the garbage can in a few months anyways?

I'd suggest the Nikon 80-200 f2.8 ed over any non Nikon lens. Even though it's not VR, and it's direct drive AF and not AFS, it's great glass, second only to the $2000 AFS 70-200 Nikon lens, and half the price.

No no no, buy the most expensive gear you can to start out with. That way when you are not happy with it you can post it here for sale at a great price.

One thing I see that I would want in a basic kit is at least an off camera cord for the flash without having to go to the expense of full wireless. It's surprising what getting that flash arms length away from the camera can do.

With the new Nikon bodies and an SB 900, off camera is built in (flash commander). I THINK w/ the D600, but would have to confirm the specs. And MAYBE on the lower flashes like the SB700, but some Nikon gear experts would have to confirm that as well.
